Hope in the Heart of the Favela

Wave in Rio serves the children of Palmeirinha a favela of over 55,000 people, known for its challenges but also for its resilience.

We currently work directly with 200 children aged 4 to 11, many arriving hungry and malnourished.

In a place where joy was stolen too early, we bring back the laughter of childhood through faith, education, and care.

OUR MISSION

Hope in the Heart of the Favela

We invest in the development of vulnerable children and teenagers, equipping them to grow into mature Christians.

By empowering local churches, we help meet their health, education, and spiritual needs so they can thrive and impact their communities.

Rio: A City of Contrasts

Brazil is a country of deep social inequality. The poorest 34% of the population hold only 1.2% of the nation’s wealth.

In Rio, this contrast is visible favelas stand side by side with luxury buildings.

Yet amid poverty, violence, and fear, we see beauty: creative, strong people longing for justice and the presence of Jesus.

The 5 Waves

Educational Programs

Education opens the door to a new future. Through English classes, after-school tutoring, and seminars with health professionals, we equip children to dream and grow. We also nurture their talents through sports and arts including Jiu-Jitsu, ballet, and music.

Short-Term Missions Trips

Short-term mission trips are powerful opportunities to connect, serve, and transform. Teams from around the world partner with local leaders to impact families, encourage hope, and share the love of Christ.

For Theirs Is the Kingdom Initiative

Since 2018, this weekly program has reached over 200 children and their families. Each meeting brings recreation, Bible teaching, art shows, and two daily meals. We also provide food baskets and practical support to families in need.

Industrial Kitchen Project

We are building an industrial kitchen to produce bread and other foods, offering training and employment to local residents. This project feeds families and creates opportunities through professional courses and partnerships with nearby businesses.
